WOWOWOWOW. Just proof that the NWNW message works. We may not all agree on EVERYTHING, but some of us realize the fatherless problem in the black community is killing us. Segueing from her stance against gay marriage *sigh* to illegitimacy in the Black family, Ann lays it out for Marc Lamont Hill and the Larry King Show audience, without actually mentioning NWNW explicitly, in this video from time mark 6:00 to 7:00.

I like Anne Coulter –please do not throw cyber tomatoes at me—and she’s absolutely right. She’s been talking about this very issue for Y.E.A.R.S! But nobody wants to listen because they’d rather paint her as racist.

    P.S.
Notice how Mark Lamont Hill tried to talk around the issue by throwing out all the talking-point-dismissals/excuses: patriarchal society, white-hetero-American value [in other words- don’t act white!], crack, the economy, blah blah blah…

I like Ann Coulter, too *tj ducking* and I totally agree with Zabeth – she’s been talking about how liberal policies have destroyed the black family. Guess who has also been talking about this for years – Rush Limbaugh! Both have pointed out how the government stepping in to take ‘care’ of the black community has actually destroyed the black family by making black men obsolete.

Black and hispanic women no longer ‘need’ men when they can get everything they need from the government in the form of subsidies (that monthly check, food, even bus fare and childcare).

Rather than empowering our men, they’ve replaced them.

I can’t speak for other regions of the country, but I know that in the south the notion that welfare destroyed black families is nonsense. How do I know this? Because for the most part welfare wasn’t available to black folks in the south in great numbers until well into the 1970s and in some cases the 1980s. In rural parts of the south farm owners wanted to keep black folk as literal slaves, so “getting on the county” was only accessible to white people.

And let me assure you, black men were abandoning and neglecting their children long before 1970. My mother was a product of such a situation. She and her brothers and sisters darned near starved to death during the Great Depression, not because of lack of money to buy food, but because their father took the money he earned and spent it on liquor and other women. (As many men are prone to do.) Ask anyone who’s ever worked at any kind of relief agency–you never give money or resources to men because they have a tendency to spend it on things that are beneficial only to themselves, not to the family as a whole. I think the main difference between black men and men of other races is social control–there are norms in place that make those that don’t care for their children a social pariah. For various reasons those social controls are not in place in the black community, thus this behavior is more acceptable.

This is the true root of the evil. “Men” like this are not put on blast. They are not shamed for being utterly worthless and selfish. Instead, they are seen as the “norm,” so why act like a real man would? Women really do need to look critically at the “men” whom they lay down with.

Roslyn, your clarity and depth is truly the gospel. Your family plight is crushingly simliar to mine. My Southern grandfather spoke of this ‘father family abandoning practice’ DAILY, how NEVER to entrust the money to ‘trifin’ negro and the LACK OF WELFARE. My grandfather worked from age 6 to support his family becuase his dad never did.

Oh and Zab, Marc Lamont Hill, always uses the ‘rhetoric’ to avoid the root of a problem.
